There will be the following classes of Members:

  • Individual Members


    • All active researchers in Chemical Sciences having a postgraduate degree shall be eligible to be enrolled as individual members of the Society.

    • The Governing Council may, at its discretion and on merits of each case, make an exception and admit as an individual member a person who does not fulfil the educational qualification

    • Every individual member shall pay to the Society an annual membership fee of Rs.200 (Rupees two hundred only). The membership fee for the first year shall be paid at the time of admission and thereafter the membership fee shall be paid in the month of April each year.

    • An individual member may opt to pay a lump sum fee of Rs.2,000 (Rupees two thousand only) at the time of admission as a member towards Life Membership fee, in which case the provisions regarding annual membership fee shall not apply to him/ her.

  • Patron Members


    • A Patron Member is one who makes a one-time contribution of an amount of not less than Rs.1 lakh as donation to the Society and is invited by the Governing Council to be a Patron Member. A Patron Member could be a company, a partnership firm, a society, a body corporate, a government department, a university, a national laboratory or any other institution or an individual. A Patron Member who is an individual is himself considered to be a member of the General Body. An institutional Patron Member can nominate a person to be a member of the General Body. Such members will not be required to pay the annual subscription.

A Register of Members shall be maintained at the office of the Society.

Meetings of the Members

A General Meeting of the Members of the Society, called the Annual General Meeting, shall be held every year.

The business to be transacted at the meeting shall include the following:

  • Consideration and adoption of the Annual Report of the Governing Council.

  • Consideration and,adoption of the audited Annual Accounts and the Report of the Auditors there on.

  • Appointment of auditors and fixing their remuneration.

A notice of an Annual General Meeting shall be sent to every member at least 21 days before the meeting, stating therein the date, time, venue and the agenda for the meeting.

All General Meetings of the Society other than the Annual General Meeting shall be known as Extraordinary General Meetings and such meetings may be convened to consider any urgent matter by giving a notice of 15 days.

One-tenth of the members or fifty members, whichever is less, shall constitute the quorum for any General Meeting of the Society. If the requisite quorum is not present, then the meeting shall be adjourned for half an hour and thereafter the business will be transacted with the members present forming the quorum, provided the President and at least 14 members are among those present.

The accidental omission to send notice to a member or non-receipt of notice by some members shall not affect the validity of the proceedings of a meeting.

Termination of Membership

An individual membership shall cease by death, resignation or removal.

An individual member whose annual subscription is in arrears for two consecutive years despite reminders from the Society may be removed from the membership of the Society by the Governing Council. Such a member may however be readmitted by the Governing Council on his clearing the arrears and paying, a fine of Rs.200.

An individual member is liable to be removed by the Governing Council from the membership of the Society if he/she is declared insolvent or convicted of a criminal offence or he/she has, in the opinion of the Governing Council, behaved or acted in a manner which is in fact and in merit prejudicial or detrimental to the interests of the Society.
